Congratulations to all…. Huge Success with our combined efforts.... OSMB sides with the boating community and leaves Ross Island open to all boats, motorized and non-motorized.
A special THANK YOU to everyone that got involved and gave vital testimony in tonight’s meeting that made a difference in the outcome with the OSMB Board Members in the final vote.
The common focus tonight at the Special OSMB Meeting held down town Portland concerning Ross Island and Holgate channel among the boating community was education and compromise as the first step instead of the closure proposal presented to the City of Portland and the OSMB earlier this year by the paddle enthusiast.
This is just the beginning the vote ended in 3 to 2 vote of no change to the proposed Ross Island No-Wake-Zone area.
The OSMB Board suggested that we as a boating community start building the bridges needed to address concerns from both sides and come up with a compromise that works for everyone regardless if your boat has a motor or a paddle.
The Boaters' Rights Coalition of Oregon is committed to support a task force formed over the next few weeks, composed of boaters and paddlers along with state agency officials to increase education and awareness of the Ross Island Lagoon and the Holgate Channel area. The task forces agenda will start with safe, respectful boat operation for all using the Ross Island Lagoon and the Holgate channel to recreate.
We all need to relearn how to play together.
We will keep you posted to any upcoming task force agendas and meetings. If you are interested in being part of the task force group please come forward and contact us through our "contact us" page at the top right corner of our home page of this website.
Thank you again to everyone, from your board members…… Keeping Boaters Rights for Everyone!
